The New York Jets plan to release Thomas Jones (running back) sometime this week, making Jones the 4th big name running back to be released. (SD – LaDainian Tomlinson, PHI – Brian Westbrook, and CLE – Jamal Lewis)
Jones was reportedly told Monday that the team will be releasing him when free agency begins on Friday.
Jones was due an addition $3 million bonus this season on top of his $2.8 million salary. The Jets didn’t want to pay that and they couldn’t work out a deal, so Jones will be released.
Last season the 31 year old Jones carried the ball 331 times for 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns, which were all career highs.
