The NFL is currently looking into changing the current playoff overtime rules, and could make the change as early as next month.

Currently in OT the first team to score wins the game.

The NFL is planning on giving each team a chance to score unless the first team to touch the ball scores a touchdown. If the first team gets a field goal and the second team ties the game, play would continue until a team scores again.

Discussion arose on the issue after the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings game during the 2009 Playoffs where the Saints beat the Vikings 31-28 in OT, and the Vikings never got to touch the ball.

Under the new rules the Vikings would have gotten a chance to tie the game or score a touchdown for the win.
